Consistency between visual acuity scores obtained at different test distances.

چکیده
Results: After adjustment for test distance, VA scores obtained at the closer distance were found to be systematically lower than those obtained at the farther distance in all data sets. In the Submacular Surgery Trials pilot study, the average discrepancy between 2and 0.5-m VA scores was 7.5 letters. In an ancillary study of the Macular Photocoagulation Study, the discrepancy between 10-ft and 5-ft VA scores was 3.1 letters. In the Laser to Drusen Trial pilot study, the discrepancy between 3.2and 1-m VA scores was 7.3 letters. In the Treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration With Photodynamic Therapy Study, in which the VA scores at the closer test distance were censored, the estimated discrepancy between 2and 1-m VA scores was 8.2 letters. Reduction in visual angle at closer test distance did not explain the discrepancy completely. Features of the macular lesion, poor accommodation of the elderly population with age-related macular degeneration, or the test charts did not account for the discrepancies.

Consistency between visual acuity scores obtained at different test distances: theory vs observations in multiple studies.
OBJECTIVE To investigate the consistency of visual acuity (VA) scores measured at 2 different distances in patients with or at risk for choroidal neovascularization. METHODS Best-corrected VA scores measured at 2 distances for the same eyes at the same examinations were collected from 4 sets of randomized clinical trials among patients with or at risk of choroidal neovascularization. Within e...
متن کاملA Quantitative Investigation on the Effect of Edge Enhancement for Improving Visual Acuity at Different Levels of Contrast
Background: The major limitation in human vision is refractive error. Auxiliary equipment and methods for these people are not always available. In addition, limited range of accommodation in adult people when switching from a far point to a near point is not simply possible. In this paper, we are looking for solutions to use the facilities of digital image processing and displaying to improve ...
متن کاملComparison of visual outcomes and subjective visual quality after bilateral implantation of a diffractive trifocal intraocular lens and blended implantation of apodized diffractive bifocal intraocular lenses
PURPOSE To compare the visual acuity (VA) and quality of vision between bilateral implantation of a trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) and blended bifocal IOLs with an intermediate add in the dominant eye and a near add in the nondominant eye. PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients with either trifocal or blended bifocal IOLs implanted were recruited after surgery. Subjects returned for a single diagnost...
متن کاملNational Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire in the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS): AREDS Report No. 10.
OBJECTIVES To describe the vision-targeted, health-related quality of life, measured with the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ), in patients with age-related macular degeneration, cataract, or reduced visual acuity; to determine the relationship between the NEI-VFQ subscale scores and clinical measures of visual function; and to assess the internal consistency and r...
متن کاملVisual Acuity Before and After Occlusion Therapy in Children and Adolescents (Aged 5-13 years) Amblyopia
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of occlusion therapy on visual acuity in children and adolescents (aged 5-13 years) with amblyopia. Methods: This experimental study followed a pretest-posttest design. Totally, 72 people with amblyopic eyes (visual acuity between 20/100 and 20/25) were selected through convenient sampling. The visual acuity was assessed at 1, 3, and 6 months after starting occlu...
